Boating Day

Surprises can be fun but we figure it's better for you to have an idea of what to expect the day that you join our singles sailing club to come out sailing or motoring with us.

Breakfast

On boating day, whether Saturday or Sunday, we meet for breakfast at the Marina del Rey Hotel, 13534 Bali Way at 9:30. Walk down the hotel's main hall, past the desk into the restaurant. We're usually on the left, whether inside or outside on the grass.

We typically hang out there until around 11.  Out of respect for the skippers and others who want to get underway as soon as possible, please arrive at 9:30am sharp.  If you're not there by 9:30am we may give your spot away.  The time at which we depart for our respective boats depends on the weather conditions.

Please... if you're not able to make it on the day of the sail, call your skipper or another attending member to let us know. That way we can accommodate other folks who weren't able to sign up to come out boating at the meeting.

Everyone who comes out boating with us chips in $3 to buy breakfast for our boat skippers.  We each pay for our own meal. Bring $3 cash to contribute to your skipper's breakfast, cover your breakfast, tax, and a tip (expect to pay $18-20 total).

Getting to your boat

We drive ourselves to our respective boats. You can follow someone who knows the way, or sometimes skippers print directions. There is often free parking but bring coins, cash, Mastercard, or Visa in case you need to use a public lot. ($3 per day, except $6 Memorial Day through Labor Day.) This printable map at MarinadelRey.com will help you become familiar with the area. Here is some info about parking lots.

Boating decorum

We ask that you follow a few simple rules while on a skipper's boat.

  1. Safety First!
  2. Listen to the skipper.
  3. Don't play skipper.
  4. Don't jump overboard. The water is cold! These are not swim cruises.
  5. Your skipper will let you know about eating and drinking during the sail, and you may ask of course.
  6. When you're not actively part of the crew, take a seat that's out of the way so people can get where they need to in order to handle the sails (or controls).

If you're wondering what to wear, you'll learn or can ask at the meeting, but you can also check out our FAQs.

After the sail

Around 4-5 pm, depending on the season, we head back and get together at a pre-determined location for an after-sail party. If you haven't consumed all the food, wine and snacks you brought, this is when you break it out and share with all who participated in the sail.
